Parental Hour Introduced for Parents of Children Under 12 and Children Under 18 with Severe or Profound Disabilities

May 21, 2026

At today’s Government session, the draft law “On Amendments and Additions to the Labor Code of the Republic of Armenia” was approved, according to which parents caring for children under the age of 12, as well as parents of children under the age of 18 with severe or profound disabilities, will have the right to benefit from parental hour leave.

The guarantee will be provided as follows:

• A parent (foster parent, adoptive parent, or guardian) with up to two children up to 30 minutes per day,

• A parent with three or more children up to 1 hour per day,

• A parent of a child under 18 with severe or profound disability up to 1 hour per day, regardless of the number of children.

The provision of parental hour leave will enable working parents to organize their professional and family responsibilities more flexibly, ensuring the necessary supervision over the child’s care, education and health.

The guarantee will be granted based on the employee’s written application. The parental hour will be included in working hours, and the employee’s base salary will be maintained during that period.

The draft law will soon be submitted to the National Assembly in accordance with the established procedure.
